Renewable energy alone is not enough to enable industrial development
Clean energy is necessary—but not sufficient. Industry requires reliable and predictable supply.
Renewable electricity generation already represents a significant share—around two-thirds—of Chile's total electricity output, reflecting the sustained progress of the energy transition.
However, electricity accounts for only a fraction of Chile's total energy consumption, while a substantial share of the energy mix still depends on fossil fuels.
In this context, decarbonizing electricity supply alone is not enough. Advancing demand electrification is essential to extend the benefits of renewable energy to sectors such as transport, industry, and residential consumption.
At the current stage of the power system, however, a new challenge emerges: available clean energy is not always equivalent to usable energy. For energy-intensive sectors—such as mining, data centers, and large-scale industry—the key criterion is not only the origin of energy, but its reliability.
This new reality implies that energy must be available when needed, manageable over time, predictable in its behavior, and stable in terms of cost.
Industrial development increasingly depends on the ability to structure energy solutions that integrate generation, storage, supply contracts, and operational management—transforming variable energy into a robust and manageable supply.
In this context, BESS plays a central role, as it helps compensate for the variability of renewable generation, ensure continuity, and adapt energy delivery to consumption needs. At the same time, proper contract structuring provides cost stability and reduces exposure to market volatility.
Industrial projects require clear conditions to make investment decisions. In this environment, access to reliable energy solutions is no longer a competitive advantage—it is a prerequisite for development. Without flexible and predictable supply, the capacity to sustain industrial growth is constrained.
